Children's Services Overview
Children are the most vulnerable and least visible victims of homelessness. Yet, the instability and trauma that accompanies homelessness can leave its deepest marks on a child. Increased rates of illness, hunger, and malnutrition, anxiety, aggression, developmental delays, lowered self-worth and interrupted schooling are among the many risks facing children in homeless families.
For a child, freedom is found in stability — the greatest gift we can give children is to help their parents and caregivers provide a safe and secure home. Our Children's Services offer children and parents comprehensive programming and caring support to overcome the challenges they face as they transition into permanent housing. During times of uncertainty, SOS provides children with familiar and safe environments in which to learn, play and grow. We have programs for children in preschool, school-age, and support for parents.
