Basic Needs/Financial Assistance
Utility Assistance
- Financial assistance is available for utility bills (gas, electricity,
water) only when they are in shut-off status.
- Washtenaw County residents are allowed to use this service once every 12 months.
- Consumers may begin the utility assistance process by phone,
but must come to the SOS Crisis Center to complete it.
- Utility assistance depends upon availability of funds.

Transportation Assistance
SOS offers pop bottle/can distribution as available. Emergency transportation assistance is available only for transportation to emergency shelter. Transportation assistance is dependent upon availability of funds.

Referrals to Other Resources
- If SOS is unable to provide services for a consumer, he or she
is given information about additional community resources, including
a list of area shelters, food/clothing distribution sites and
area housing options.
- Referrals are available during walk-in hours.
