Supportive Services
SOS is committed to ending homelessness for families by helping them sustain long-term permanent housing. To accomplish this, we have designed supportive services that intensively target root causes of family instability and helps homeless parents achieve their goals related to household management, budgeting, employment, education, and parenting.
- Case Management: Upon entrance into SOS shelter, transitional, or permanent housing for homeless families, each family is assigned a case manager and assessed for needs related to housing, children's services and employment services. An individualized Family Action Plan is developed to describe the path which will most quickly lead the family to self-sufficiency.
- Employability Services: Families who enter our housing are offered assistance with finding employment or pursuing educational goals. Their employability services worker may help them improve their literacy, pass GED exams, enroll in local community colleges, or find and keep employment.
- Children Services: Parents and children of each family have the opportunity to participate in programs that promote positive growth and development. Programs range from after-school tutoring to parenting education groups. The children’s services worker oversees this process and creates an individualized plan for each parent and child in need of these services.
